Kodak on Polaroid

Description

When I saw pearwood 's comments on this deviation (2016-052 Genesee River foot bridge at sunset), it reminded me of this photo I took on Polaroid's Polachrome film. I thought it would be ironic to photograph the Kodak 'monument' with it's competitors instant product. This was taken near Lyell Ave In Rochester, NY. Polaroid's instant slide film is very interesting, check out these links for more info: www.rwhirled.com/landlist/land…, en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polavisi….

The reason you'll see moire and discoloration in the scanned image is because of the way the color is added back to the negative. Polaroid managed to create a film that had a very fine aperture grille similar to a CRT TV, where red, green, and blue colors are separated by strips. This is also similar to interlacing in some video formats. The film has a bit of curve to it so scanning it usually produces some moire from the fine strips. V
iewing it through a traditional slide viewer or projector produces such a different look; digital scans do not do it justice. Please full view for full effect.

Fascinating, especially in full resolution.

Yes, times gone by.
